Arts Team has collaborated with the internationally renowned architect Daniel Libeskind on the new 2100-seat lyric theatre at the heart of Dublin’s docklands. The venue is designed to host large scale, No 1 musicals, opera, ballet and entertainment events.The auditorium has a palette of rich reds and dramatic house lighting redolent of the glamour of West End and Broadway venues.Arts Team’s concept for three tiers with stepping side boxes also gives a sense of intimacy and coherence to the auditorium. Libeskind’s architectural concept, was overlayed onto this three tier form. The side walls have “ribs” likened to a ship’s hull with the ceiling elements seen as ship’s “sails”. Box fronts are faced with semi-translucent fine bronze woven mesh and are lit from within.The stage and backstage facilities fulfil LiveNation’s brief within the tight constraints of the site. The theatre’s generous stage and flytower accommodates the largest of international touring shows. Backstage is the visiting performers’ “home from home”. It is welcoming, accessible and spacious. It is well signed and the decoration of each floor is colour coded giving variety and a sense of place.
