The extensive refurbishment of this 1,650-seat, 1930s theatre was completed at the end of 1993. The insertion of a cascade of side seating boxes brought a high degree of theatrical intimacy to the auditorium, enhancing its ambience for the presentation of major musicals. The interior design has been unified with a new colour scheme, specially designed carpet, upholstery and wall coverings, complementing reinstated original features. The flamboyant details enhance the underlying character and spirit of the space, helping to build a sense of audience excitement and anticipation before the curtain rises.“...It’s an accomplished piece of design... a crude 1,600-seat, 1930s barn has been transformed into something that combines spectacle and intimacy... a more convincing 1930s theatre than it ever was.” Hugh Pearman, Sunday Times
