In 2010, Aedas Landscape was commissioned to provide an urban regeneration plan and public realm guidelines to cover the existing downtown area of Abu Dhabi.The principal objective was to create a plan that would address the urban decay in the existing downtown area. The second objective was to add the imbalance between vehicles and pedestrians in order to create a better place for people to interact with each other in a shaded, safe and attractive environment. A detailed public realm strategy was devised with particular emphasis on creating shared pedestrian and vehicular environments.
