Welsh Assembly Government Building
Llandudno, UK
A new multi-functional Assembly Government office in North Wales to be primarily occupied by civil servants employed by the Assembly or associated bodies. It will also be a focal point for enquiries from members of the public with regard to Assembly business.
The building has been designed with reference to a palette of prestigious and durable materials which have a strong association with the history of the Region. These include:
- Slate quarried on open terraces at Penrhyn and Dinorwig.
- Copper mining on the Great Orme dating back to the Bronze Age.
- Oak from the ancient woodlands of North and West Wales.
The building has been developed to provide a gross internal floor area of 8,400 sq. m. with an open plan floor area to accommodate 650 workstations, reception, meeting rooms, conference facilities, library and breakout areas. The building straddles the existing embankment with 2 storey accommodation on the upper terrace and 3 storeys to the lower.
The scheme has been procured on a Design and Build basis with contractor, HBG.
