Petchey Academy
East London, UK
Aedas was appointed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DfES) and the Petchey Foundation to design and implement a £25m new secondary school in Hackney, East London.
Sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation, the 1200 place Petchey Academy replaces the existing Kingsland School, which was entirely demolished prior to the new academy’s opening in September 2007. In the interim a temporary school for one year group of 180 students opened in September 2006 for the first year intake.
The Petchey Academy includes a sixth form college for 300 students, and has a specialism in healthcare and medical sciences. Part of the site has been dedicated to a Child Development Centre (CDC), which has been developed separately from the academy.
