Xiamen Cruise Terminal
Xiamen, PRC
In 2004, Aedas won a competition to design an ‘international cruise terminal’ in Xiamen. The proposed mixed-use development consists of hotels, residential & commercial buildings and an exhibition centre. The masterplan also comprises extensive waterfront communal facilities such as parks, artificial canals and a civic centre.
The overall design concept was that the vessels tying-up at the terminal should be plainly seen from the city and harbor. So the surrounding buildings, hotels, residential towers, commercial blocks and an exhibition centre, were set well back from the terminal building and waves, was kept deliberately low. Behind the terminal and separating it from the curving facade of residential towers, is a landscaped promenade and manmade canal. This created a welcoming precinct for users.
