Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station and Depot
Malaysia
This project comprises of 2 major elements - a railway station and a railway maintenance depot with a total floor area of 120,000m2. The Station forms the focal point for Kuala Lumpur’s railway networks integrating 5 rail systems including KTM Commuter & Intercity, PUTRA LRT (Light Rail System) and the Express Rail Link and ERL Commuter to KL International Airport, making it a strategic local and international transport hub. The Central Station will be an important complement to KLIA as an “in-town airport”.
The project also comprises of associated administrative facilities and an overhead mixed-use development for retail, office, sports, hotel and residential.
The concourse areas are covered by a tubular steel ‘Wave Roof’. The roofs consist of hyperbolic paraboloid steel structures clad with natural finished standing seam stainless steel.
The main entrance concourse continues the Islamic geometry floor finish and is enveloped by an inclined, facetted laminated glass wall supported by crescent-shaped tubular steel glazing trusses.
This is an above ground station and serves as an interchange. Design Consultancy by Kurokawa.
